Course description

Studio art is a comprehensive foundations course in secondary art. The course is designed to acquaint students with the scope of an entire visual arts program. It provides the student with a range of art experiences emphasizing visual perception, development of art skills in creating art works, knowledge of materials and resources, responding to and analyzing works of art, understanding the cultural dimensions and contributions of art and art history. The course covers all the basic studio arts including drawing, painting, and color theory, design, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics and textile manipulation. The studio art course is a prerequisite for all Art sequences. This course meets Regents arts requirement based on the New York State and National Learning Standards. Students are graded on participation and completed works.
