Quebec 2019...Brrrr!

Despite record low temperatures, the JH International Club had a fantastic adventure this year in Quebec City. Dogsledding was our first activity, followed by the Sugar Shack dinner and dancing, then making maple butter and taffy on snow. Saturday morning we went on a frigid fact-finding mission in Old Quebec, exchanged our money, took a tour of the Ste. Anne de Beaupre Basilica, and then went back to town for shopping and poutine. We visited the Remparts Hockey Game and an Improv Show with a very steep, cold trek back to the Concorde Hotel. We then escaped the winds off the St. Lawrence River by heading out to Valcartiers for tubing and skating. “The Military” interactive history lesson was rescheduled for Monday, due to the severe weather, and afterwards we went to the Galleries Mall. Laurence, our awesome Jumpstreet Tour Guide, (and lifeguard) kept us on the move and informed. Also thanks to Yvonne, our Wade Tours bus driver for safe passage! Many thanks to all those who made this trip possible, especially our chaperones, Mr. Bert Haier, Mr. Jeff Ledbetter, Mrs. Kathy Selmser, and Mrs. Colleen Usherwood! They went above and beyond the call of duty as usual! Thirty-seven eighth graders experienced a foreign language, customs and culture (of history and present), while practicing social skills, responsibility, and helping each other, plus challenging themselves to do new things! Travel helps you learn about yourself, and your world - Happy memories!
