2020 Graduation Different but a Great Success

What an amazing end to a difficult year! Graduation at Tully has always been a traditional event but with state guidelines being enforced due to the pandemic, things looked very different this year. Administration, however, was determined to make it as memorable as possible for our seniors that missed out on so many “lasts.” One major difference was that the ceremony was held outside in the parking lot, transitioning to the front of the building. Students and family members had specific parking spots where they stayed in or by their vehicle for a beautiful rendition of the national anthem played by Nate Cattell on his saxophone, the valedictorian (Nicole Ball), salutatorian (Ian Byrne), and class president (Grace Swan) speeches, and a surprise guest all the way from Nashville, Tennessee. Country singer Drew Baldridge sang his hit songs “Senior Year” and “Middle of Nowhere Kids” along with some words of encouragement that resonated with the seniors, making their graduation one of the most memorable yet. Faculty and students made their way around the building with Tully Black Knight embroidered masks to the stage where they received their diplomas and had pictures taken with their families. They also picked up swag bags filled with treats made up by community donations. At the end of it all, students and families lined their cars up for a parade that was escorted by the Tully Fire Department and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department. They wound their way through town and towards Song Mountain where Peter Harris and staff entertained the seniors and their families with a ride to the top of the mountain for the amazing view and to take more pictures. With graduation being so different, fear of disappointment was on a lot of minds, but with all of the positive feedback that we received, we consider it a great success!
