Meet Your 2020-2021 JH Student Council!

Junior High Student Council elections took place in late September, revealing the 2020-2021 officers. Eight positions were filled in total; a president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer were elected for each of the 7th grade and 8th grade classes. For 8th grade, four students ran unopposed; however, 8th graders still voted so that they could recognize those students and practice the responsibility of voting. For 7th grade, 12 people in total ran, making for an interesting campaign. The campaign and election were different than in year’s past. Everyone who ran for office had to write a paragraph emphasizing why he/she should be elected. These paragraphs were distributed among voters and then students voted by “electronic ballot,” aka a Google Form.
Officer duties this year will include attending the monthly meeting where students will rethink activities such as the craft show and dances since those events cannot be attended in-person due to COVID. Officers will plan and design a Craft Show Magazine where crafters will provide a summary of their products and their contact info to be shared with the community so people can still order from their favorite crafters. An idea to replace the dance is a food truck rodeo, so officers will work on planning that and perhaps come up with other ideas too. The Student Council will still have their annual canned food drive since it's more important this year than ever to give back to the community. Congratulations to the 2020-2021 JH Student Council Officers!
